Food service, retail and manufacturing

Food businesses regulated by councils such as cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, manufacturers and caterers.

Safe Food Victoria shares responsibility for developing and administering food regulation with the Commonwealth Government and Victorian Local Councils, collaborating to promote consistent regulatory requirements in a widely dispersed and varied food industry.

Local government regulate most food businesses in Victoria, including cafés and restaurants, retail food businesses, non‑meat, non‑seafood and non‑dairy food manufacturers, and community or temporary food activities such as markets, festivals and fundraisers.
