Who this licence suits?
There are four game meat approvals and licences. You may need more than one if you conduct more than one activity in the game meat supply chain.
Game Meat Field Harvester approval
With this approval, you can:
- harvest and sell wild game animals.
You do not need this approval to harvest kangaroos.
Game Meat Processing Facility (harvest vehicle) licence
With this licence, you can use a vehicle to:
- field harvest wild game animals for sale
- transport wild game animal carcasses to:
- a game meat processing facility (premises)
- a game meat processing facility (field depot), or
- a pet meat processing facility.
Game Meat Processing Facility (field depot) licence
With this licence, you can:
- store wild game animal carcasses under refrigeration (in a vehicle or at a premises) for a short time before transporting them to:
- a game meat processing facility (premises), or
- a pet meat processing facility.
A field depot can include the refrigerated meat‑carrying compartment of a vehicle used to transport wild game animal carcasses.
Game Meat Processing Facility (premises) licence
With this licence, you can:
- process game meat and/or game meat products for human consumption
- package game meat and/or game meat products
- retail game meat products
- wholesale game meat products.
Existing meat processing facilities
Abattoirs, further meat processing facilities and poultry processing facilities can also hold a Game Meat Processing Facility (premises) licence if:
- the facility meets game meat construction and equipment requirements
- game meat processing does not occur during the processing of non‑game meat, and
- all processing equipment is fully cleaned and sanitised before processing non‑game animals.
