Who this licence suits?
A Wildcatch licence suits businesses that harvest seafood for sale for human consumption.
There are three Wildcatch licences. The species of seafood you harvest determines which licence you need.
You only need to hold one Wildcatch licence — the licence that covers the species of seafood you intend to harvest and sell.
What you can do
With any Wildcatch licence, you can:
- process seafood only to preserve it, so it is safe to sell (including cooking prawns onboard)
- sell seafood you have harvested from the vessel at the point of unloading.
Crustaceans licence
With this licence, you can:
- harvest crustaceans
- harvest any other species.
General licence
With this licence, you can:
- harvest seafood except:
- abalone
- crustaceans
- noxious fish.
Noxious Fish licence
With this licence, you can:
- harvest noxious fish only.
You cannot harvest any other species with this licence.
Activities that do not need a licence
You do not need a Safe Food Victoria licence to harvest and sell the following species live:
- fin fish
- abalone
- rock lobsters
- yabbies.
What you cannot do
With a Wildcatch licence, you cannot:
- process seafood other than to preserve it for sale — you need a Seafood Processing Facility licence
- grow the seafood you harvest — you need an Aquaculture licence.
