Licence conditions and standards

Licence conditions require all meat processing facilities to comply with relevant Australian and Victorian standards and guidelines.

Standards and guidelines you must follow

Use the Australian Standard for the Hygienic Production of Pet Meat.

This standard contains the minimum requirements for hygiene in harvesting, transportation, processing, identification, packaging and storage of pet meat, to ensure a safe and acceptable product.

Pet food establishments are audited in their first week of operation and then once each year.

If you have fewer than 20 workers, you do not need to conduct management reviews or internal audits.

Audits are conducted by a Safe Food Victoria‑approved auditor.
