What you can do

A Retail Butcher Shop licence lets you sell and prepare meat for customers from a shop. With this licence, you can:

  • Sell meat directly to customers from your shop
  • Sell meat wholesale, up to 50 tonnes per year.
  • Prepare, process and store meat, as long as it is mainly for retail sale

You cannot:

  • Slaughter animals - you need an Abattoir licence.
  • Slaughter poultry - you need a Poultry Processing Facility licence.
  • Wholesale more than 50 tonnes of meat per year - you need a Further Meat Processing Facility licence.
  • Sell pet food - you need a Pet Food Establishment licence.
  • Transport meat or seafood - you need a Meat Transport Vehicle licence.
